Kayen smiled softly as he heard that she was single and then he glanced back to Ash quickly with a pair of eyes that were not happy. "Settle down, Commander. This is a Starfleet Vessel even if I am younger than half of you..." he turned back to Elizabeth and checked the current course. After a few moments, he nodded his head. "Steady as she goes. This is a good warm up. Increase speed to three quarters impulse and if she doesn't blow up, go to full."

I will be fine, Miss Sweetwater. I am always restless. I can usually control it, its just the first flight that its hard to contain everything. I will be fine once he go to warp.
Ash smiled and leaned back, watching Elizabeth carefully. She could sense everything about him and everyone else. He smiled again, thinking quickly. He wanted to see if he could get a visible reaction out of her. He quickly went through a number of emotions, including anger, happiest, lust, surprise, and sadness, all very quickly, and kept mixing it up. He would even be happy with a simple glance back. [/sub]

Elizabeth followed the orders of the captain, repeating as she started. "Aye sir. Three quarters and full if Lieutenant Thos gives the okay." As she slowly brought the ship up to three quarters impulse she realized what Commander Akitsuki was doing. Her empathic ability was like a new toy and he wanted to push it. He did not understand that his emotional state did not normally affect her in anyway and in rare occasions it would only affect her own emotional state and the chemical balance in her brain. She figured the best response was none at all; at lease for the time being. She liked the idea that they did not really understand the limit of her abilities, sense none of them bothered to do a little research before coming aboard. Instead she activated the communication with engineering, "Lieutenant Thos, what would you say to full impulse at this point of the journey?" Elizabeth voice was respectful, like the doctor, Odan Thos had her upmost respect. He had taught her warp theory and advance warp theory at the academy, but it was his service on the USS Enterprise that was the real kicker.
Meanwhile in main engineering, Odan took a deep breath and activated the communications to the bridge. "Captain, impulse engines seem to be running fine, however, I would like not to run them at full impulse for very long. We got a lot of data about how they are performing to go through. It should be fine to accelerate in order to enter low warp." Odan did not should panic, but it was safe to say he did not trust the engines yet. Odan continued to watch the monitors, knowing that if something bad was to happen, it would be when they entered warp. The warp engine design had a lot of untested components and as such it was bound to fail them sometime. He knew however it most likely fail when they needed it the most; like things always did on the Enterprise.

Doctor Beckett was in his chair, leaning it back as far as he could. Unlike a lot of the furniture aboard ship, his chair was mobile, so he could move it about sickbay from station to station to sit with patients or at his desk. it could be magnetically locked down to the deck in cases of turbulence, but so far he liked it free so he could put his feet up on something and lean it back.
His eyes began to flutter closed as the ship's engines hummed to life. something about the sound of engines always made him drowsy and this time was no different. His eyes shut and though he would never admit it to anyone, he fell asleep.
he was rudely awakened however when he suddenly felt like he was falling. He'd pushed the chair too far back in his sleep and was falling backwards. He hit the ground and the chair rolled away from him in a clatter. The Nurses and interns all turned to look at him as he sat up and slapped his forehead. "Oy, that probably couldn't have been much worse."
He stood up and picked his chair back up. he turned to his staff and shouted in his Scottish accent "oy, get back to work. Ain't nothin to see around here."

Kayen nodded his head and then he recited coordinates deeper into the outer reaches of the Alpha Quadrant. "Set a course for those coordinates, warp 3 to start. Let's get this mission underway... engage!"

Ash noticed that he was getting nothing out of Elizabeth, so he gave up. He would study her later and learn about her abilities, and how to counter them. Right now he wasn't too worried about it. Ash stood up and stood next to the captain.
Well, we're off on our first adventure on this ship. It probably wont be the last either, buts lets make it the best. [/sub]

Elizabeth smiled as she accelerated to critical speed when the ship shock violently, almost throwing the unexpecting Elizabeth from her seat. They then broke the warp barrier and the ship was steady again. Elizabeth did not like the shacking so she only remained at warp one as she pushed the communicator engineering. "Odan, what was that shack. I see that our warp field is aligned fine, but what was the shacking?" She waited for a response before accelerating or decelerating.
Odan activate his communicator. "The warp field is not staying aligned when we cross the threshold. I manual compensated for it, however I will need thirty minutes to rewrite the alignment software in order to get it the smooth ride. Keep us at warp until then. Engineering out." Odan turned off the communication channel and looked over his shoulder
Standing at one of the monitors was an ensign that he could trust. "Ensign Markos, get over here and watch the warp field alignment. If it drifts beyond .05, adjust it so it is within .001. I need to get to the computer core." Once the engineer arrived at his control panel Odan took off the main computer core. To make a modification in the core programming he needed to directly access the core. The thing he felt the worst about is that he should of check for this type of problem before leaving space dock, but he just assumed it would be fine.
Meanwhile back on the bridge Elizabeth accelerated to warp 3 and then sunk in her seat very slightly. "At warp 3 Captain. Sir, could we talk in private after the warp problem is fixed? I got some questions that are not appropriate for the bridge." Elizabeth was not exactly by the books officer, but something one did not talk about in front of the other crewmembers. She paid extra care to his emotions, trying to get a glimpse into what he may be thinking she was going to talk to him about. It could give her a better understanding of the way her thinks.

Kayen steadied himself with a hand on his seat as the ship shook and then stopped. He sighed as he heard Odan and then he nodded to Elizabeth's question. He really didn't think about the problem she might have wanted to talk about, worrying didn't help anything. So he smiled to her reassuringly and then he returned to sitting "very well. When we're stable we'll go to my ready room."

Ash spread his legs out slightly for stability, and waited out the shaking. Once it smoothed out, he stretched his arms and turned to the Captain.
Well, while you two talk, I'm going to check out engineering. If you need me, call. Its hard for me to miss the ringer.
Of course, it was the comm badge that went off when someone was contacting someone else. He left the room and took the turbolift down to engineering. After a short walk, he arrived.
Don't mind me, im just checking everything out. Where's your chief at? [/sub][/b]

Ensign Markos turned. "Sir. The Chief is currently on deck 9 working on the warp field flux program in the computer core." A small vibration could be felt in the floor. The Ensign quickly turned around. "Excuse me sir, I got to watch this very closely." The ensign compensated for the change in subspace dynamics and did not turn back around again. He just continually made small adjustments to the warp field to maintaining it below .05 drift.
Meanwhile Elizabeth stood up from her seat as another officer came to replace her. The ship was stable for the most part with Odan manually maintaining the warp field geometry. She walked off the bridge to the ready room. She figured she better speak her peace before they left Federation Space, just in case he wished to remove her from his crew. She stood in front of his disk waiting for him to entire.

Kayen stood up and left the bridge to the highest ranking officer and then he followed Elizabeth. Once he was in the ready room, Kayen walked over to stand against the desk and then he nodded to Elizabeth. "You wanted to say something?"

Elizabeth straightened her uniform and stood up straight. "Yes sir. I have been thinking about this sir but I do not think we are leaving prepare for the mission at hand. Sir with you as our primarily linguist and diplomat along as captain you will be exposing yourself to extreme amounts of danger off the ship. If this alone is bad enough, then we got Commander Akitsuki. The man is so similar to you captain that he could not hope to be an effective first officer. The first officers is required to offer all possible alternatives, but both of you leap before looking.” Elizabeth took a breath. “Also, I will answer any question about my empathic abilities. I know Commander Akitsuki was playing with me trying to understand it.” Elizabeth stood there looking at the captain with her Betaziod black irises.

Thanks, Ensign.
Ash walked off, looking over the warp core. He then had a second ensign bring up a reading on an open screen for him. All seemed well, so he decided to go find the chief Engineer. He didn't know his name yet.
He took the turbolift to Deck nine, and it was relatively easy to find him. The door's beeped as he entered.
Chief, don't mind me, i'm just checking everything out. How's she looking.
Ash would query his name when he was done, or before one of them left. [/sub]

Itar-Tass paniced as his transwarp bubble collapsed. The blue spiraling tunnel faded from view and the black of space sprang to life around him. Stars dotted the field but they were spinning as his ship was out of control.
The control crystal under his hands cracked from the damage and caused a feedback loop in the magnification crystal. his own psyonic energies which had been fed into the crystal, were feeding back into it, being magnified and looped back only to be magnified again. The crystal was building up to critical levels and with the cracked control crystal, he had no control over the ship to level it out.

Kayen was about to reply to Elizabeth when The New Orleans' warp field collapsed and the ship came out of warp not far from the other ship (Itar's). He felt the ship rock and he quickly bolted past Elizabeth to the bridge "what happened?"
The Lieutenant who had the bridge quickly answered "I don't know! But we have an unidentified craft on sensors... unknown origins."
Kayen quickly moved to the center of the bridge and looked at the view screen. "Hail them, all frequencies..."
